Zack Snyder previously revealed his love for Fortnite, and now he has expressed interest in turning the popular video game into a movie.
Etalk recently asked Snyder if he would ever consider combining his passion for filmmaking with his love of video games to bring Fortnite to the big screen, to which he replied, "Of course." The director, who helmed Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire, shared his enthusiasm for the game and its "amazing world."
"I really wanted to make some Fortnite skins for the movie [Rebel Moon], first of all, just like, as the most obviously basic involvement," Snyder said. "But yeah, look, Fortnite is an amazing world, and it is an amazing distraction for me. But it's really cool, and the alchemy that they've created there is really unique. When I started playing it, I thought I knew what it was, and then it was something entirely different.
"You definitely don't know," he added. "You definitely can never say never - that's my mantra in this business."
Snyder shared his love for Fortnite while speaking to IGN at gamescom 2023 earlier this year. He admitted he went down "a bad rabbit hole" while playing Epic's battle royale, but it helped him establish a few preferences, such as his favourite in-game skin (Mr. Meeseeks) and his game mode of choice (No Build).
"My son and I got into Fortnite. I kind of wanted to play it with him, and then he didn't like it, so then I ended up just playing it by myself," he admitted. "I went down a bad rabbit hole with Fortnite in the sense that I took a pretty deep dive… I was Meeseeks from Rick and Morty."
When asked by IGN which video games would make great movie adaptations, Snyder selected Halo and Gears of War as his two top choices, revealing that the latter "has always come up in our sort of circle" - but it would appear that he is now adding Fortnite to the list.
Paramount+ released a Halo TV series just last year, and Netflix has already announced a Gears of War live-action film. A Fortnite movie, however, is not currently in the works, even though Epic Games' chief creative officer Donald Mustard is confident he knows "exactly" how he would make a movie adaptation of the game.
